MPH Show 2008 - Pictures!

I was lucky enough to get a Media Pass to MPH Show 2008 by ‘Anny’, the lady running the show and the person you organised me the pass. So on Sunday Stevin and I decided to head to the Coca Cola Dome in Northgate, Gauteng. I got my press pass and headed to the entrance.

I must say the exhibition was mediocre, showing off cars that I had seen launched at the 2006 Auto Africa besides the BMW’s which boasted there new range of sports cars ranging from the new 135i to the new E92 m3. Oh and I must say, the Audi R8 is still an eye catcher and still is the only perfect car on the market at the moment, well at least until the S5 comes out.

We then got the call over the PA system announcing that you could enter the enclosed arena for the Motoring Theater which was the main attraction because it was hosted by none other than Sasha Martinengo… OK, let’s not play around here, I think the main attraction was Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, the real crowd calling card Jeremy Clarkson and let us not forget James May who was unable to attend the show because he is both old fashioned and and has no sense of direction and ended up in Rhodesia (free plug!).

Onto the show - the show would obviously be filled with exciting tricks and silly comments and they did not fail to please. It was filled with stunts, splendor and absolute mayhem as Top Gear would have it. It is hard to describe cars doing doughnuts, dancing, playing football and being cut in half or shrunk tiny sizes to race around a made up track; so I will let the pictures do the talking. Enjoy!

Visit to the City of the Sun!

I got a very nice invite to go stay at the Vacation Club in Sun City last week and to put it simply it was amazing. Just from 3 days I have a lifetime of memories with my girlfriend and I.

We did quite a lot including some parasailing and some jet skiing. It was great fun and also presented an opportunity to roam around the palace and get some really neat shots. It was a great break for me which was well needed.

My girlfriends mother joked around about how the government should stay there for a bit to see how things should be run. The place is very clean, has numerous buses going in circles which means a maximum 10 minute wait and then of course it is very safe.

I must also comment on how beautiful some of the hotels are, Laura and I had dinner at Santorini which is at the Cascades hotel and boy is it beautiful. We were surrounded by blue pool water while being served immaculate food which made a beautiful night out!

Shot of the Day - Cloudy Falls

I have decided to dedicate a post to the best shot of the day. This particular shot was taken outside the The Palace at Sun City. It was my first waterfall shot and turned out very well and as planned.

What really gets me is the water being perfectly clear on the right and then silky on the left. This shot was taken with my Canon 400D with the standard 18-55mm lens. I have named this picture “Cloudy Falls”.

E30 Club Hook Up

So all the e30 guys decided to get together at Tahir’s car wash on Sunday and show of what we love. It was a great turn out to say the least with a nice few bunch of e30’s rocking up. We had no less than 8 really decent 325iS’s rocking up including a really mint one and another with an e36 m3 motor in it. There were also a few hot cabrio’s and some very interesting but beautiful imports.

At the end of the day we all had a good time meeting each other and showing off what we love.

Some Sunday Racing

I spent some of my Sunday getting a client up and running after he was hit by lightning, which ruined my plan to get to the track early to snap up some really nice shots. Finally at about 2pm Stevin and I made our way into the Kyalami Circuit and we were instantly amazed at how many Porsche GT3’s there were in one parking lot. The racing was not so great but the was definitely some eye candy and plenty of it.

After having a glance we decided to leave and head towards Zwartkops to check at the VW Club Gymkhana day. We were worried that time was short and that we had missed most of the racing, especially when we were pulling and a quite a few cars were pulling out. Alas it was not so, there was still plenty of racing and there were still plenty of people and cars gracing Zwartkops.

I decided that I want to try a bit of panning as I have seeing a lot of it roaming a few websites in SA. I must say it is not easy at all and with my Sigma Lens it is not that easy to get that very crisp shot. I did however catch a few good shots but some of them needed to be cropped to get the focal point into the center.
