I am reading a book called Today Matters by Dr. John C. Maxwell and it covers a range of topics to help you succeed in life. It’s not a self-help books but rather something that plants a seed of encouragement, hope and determination. Something that thumped me and made me stop to write this post was an extract from a book called Loving Each Other by Leo Buscaglia. It’s to check that your motives are right. Are you ready?
Always start a relationship by asking; Do I have ulterior motives for wanting to relate to this person? Is my caring conditional? Am I trying to escape something? Am I planning to change this person? Do I need this person to help make up for a deficiency in myself? If you answer YES to any of these questions…Leave the person alone. He or she is better off without you.
I said wow when I read that. What are your motives when you meet someone new?
